Xilinx Enters The Linux World With ISE 4.2i Release Delivered On RedHat V7.2
Company Announces Roadmap To Support Native Linux In 2003
SAN JOSE, CA--(INTERNET WIRE)--Feb 19, 2002 -- Xilinx Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX) announced today that with the
release of ISE 4.2i software environment, customers now
have support for the Linux operating system. All of the
ISE implementation tools now run on Linux RedHat version
7.2 with the Wine applications layer. This offering makes
ISE the first programmable logic solution available that
supports Linux OS, with later versions of ISE moving to
native Linux in 2003.
Platform Independence
Xilinx customers can now utilize more choices of computing
platforms to suit their corporate and design requirements.
Linux offers users a powerful server operating system with
completely open source code and the flexibility to choose
features and to alter the system to meet the customers computing
needs.

Price, platform and availability
The ISE series of design tools provide architecture-specific
device support for all Xilinx product families including
the next-generation Virtex®-II system level FPGAs,
the recently announced Spartan®-IIE FPGAs and CoolRunner®-II
devices. Other device series supported are the Spartan and
Virtex® series, the Virtex-II platform FPGAs, and the
XC9500TM and CoolRunner® CPLDs. ISE software supports
Windows98, Windows 2000, Windows NT, Chinese, Korean, and
Japanese Windows, Solaris, and now Linux. All in-maintenance
Xilinx customers will receive their ISE upgrade with shipments
